Large Format Laser Cutting and Laser Engraving Systems
About Us
Kern Electronics & Lasers, Inc. was established in 1982 by Gerald Kern, with the main objective to design and
manufacture top quality industrial laser cutting and laser engraving machines to meet demanding production schedules.
With the company headquarters located in the beautiful lakes country of Minnesota, the facility consists of a modern 14,000 sq. ft. building with 16 full time employees. Our vision is to build laser systems that will fit the customer's needs, at an affordable price, with the versatility to suit a variety of industries.
Kern Electronics & Lasers, Inc. started by supplying a motion system for the existing computerized rotary engraving machines that would allow them to use software like CorelDraw.
As the sealed CO2 lasers became available, Kern incorporated the motion and the laser together developing larger table sizes for full stock sheets of material and installed larger lasers to cut faster and thicker material. One unique quality of the Kern system was the laser moved over the top of the material to maintain the same focal distance no matter where cutting or engraving was done on the table top.
The KCAM software was introduced in the beginning and has periodically been upgraded to meet the changing needs of the customers and the materials being cut. KCAM has complete control of the motion of the table and of the laser power. KCAM will vector cut and raster engrave in one easy step.

AFFORDABLE: We are not the typical "laser in a box" model of laser cutting and engraving systems. Our flat open surface allows easy access to three sides of the table making loading and unloading of stock material and product virtually unobstructed. Plus multiple lasers can be mounted on any Kern Laser System to increase production. Added to the fact that any Kern System can cut and engrave wood, plastics, acrylics, leather, cloth, light metal and stainless steel on the same system makes this system not only versatile, but affordable.
DEPENDABLE: All Kern Laser Systems are built with the rugged design that will cut and engrave wood, plastic, light metal, and other materials all on the same system. We stand behind every system we manufacture with a full one-year warranty. Our technicians build and test these systems and are available to assist our customers when questions arise. Kern Electronics stocks spare lasers and parts to support our customers.
INNOVATIVE: We direct our attention to innovative laser technology through research and development and continue to establish solutions that will enhance our system's versatility, therefore providing a system that is easy to use and affordable for our customers.
Our future goal is to constantly improve our products, improve the processing time, continue to service our customers and to sell them a product that will fit their needs at a price that will benefit both parties.
