KCAM Laser Software

Kern's software engineering department has developed its own state-of-the-art laser cutting and engraving software called KCAM®. Through years of research and customer feedback, KCAM® has developed into the most powerful tool in the laser cutting and engraving industry. KCAM® offers a convenient user interface to set all commonly used settings.

The new Kern Printer Driver gives you the ability to print your artwork over to KCAM® from popular design software such as CorelDRAW®, AutoCAD LT®, and Adobe Illustrator® software. KCAM® also allows you to load .plt (vector cutting) files, .tif (raster engraving) files, and .emf (combination raster & vector) files. Cutting and engraving is possible from the same file setup in KCAM. Our software is continually being upgraded and you will have access to the latest and greatest software upgrades from our website.

Load and Save Settings

Load in previously used settings that you have saved into the KCAM® software. Eliminating the guess work will save you time and material as you can start engraving with accurate and efficient settings with the click of your mouse.

Vector Color Mapping

Set up to nine different line colors to incorporate different cutting powers, speeds and frequencies within the same job to increase throughput and versatility.

True 3D Laser Engraving

Engraving 3D images is made possible through KCAM® with its ability to read up to 256 different levels of gray. Take a look at our 3D Laser Engraver page and you will see that Kern's 3D engravings are above and beyond that of any other laser system.

Cutting Optimizer

A Cut Optimizer feature guarantees that the laser cuts your file in the most time efficient manner. This feature also forces the laser to cut all internal vector lines before the outside lines are cut. This feature is a must when cutting letters and numbers such as 8's and R's.

Line Smoothing

A unique Line Smoothing feature has been added to the KCAM® software. This feature will automatically add more resolution to your arcs and circles to produce a smoother cut. This is most evident when cutting acrylic and other materials that cut with a very smooth polished edge.

Feed Forward

Without a doubt, the most powerful component of KCAM® is its Feed Forward capabilties. Unlike most laser engraving softwares, KCAM® automatically adjusts where the laser fires when it is ramping up and down. Many laser systems do not have this feature and as the laser speed is increased the engraving area becomes narrower or the image quality becomes less than acceptable. All Kern laser engravers have Feed Forward capabilites resulting in crisp images anywhere on the table top.

High Resolution Cutting

Variable Air Pressure and Frequencies

Variable optics air pressures and frequencies are two new additions to KCAM®. These variable settings make cutting thicker materials and metals simple and efficient.

Other Features

Additional features include, a soft home position, bottom-up engraving, top-down engraving, ramping distances, multiple viewing options, invert image, reverse cut order, reverse line direction, penetration delays, array features, user offsets and a variety of different pauses for those jobs that require a bit more control.
