KCAM Software

Kern's software engineering department has developed its own unique laser cutting and engraving software called KCAM. Through years of research and customer feedback, KCAM has developed into the most powerful tool in the laser cutting and engraving industry. KCAM offers convenient pull down screens to set all commonly used settings.

With the new Kern Printer Driver, you can print your artwork over to KCAM from popular design softwares such as CorelDRAW, AutoCAD, and Adobe Illustrator. KCAM also allows you to load .plt (vector cutting) files, .tif (raster engraving) files, and .emf (combination raster & vector) files.

KCAM allows you to cut and engrave from the same file setup. Set up to nine different line colors to incorporate different cutting powers, speeds, and frequencies within the same job to increase throughput and versatility. Engraving 3D images is made possible with KCAM with its ability to read up to 256 different levels of gray.

New features integrated into KCAM include:

• A High Resolution Cutting mode with over 11,000 steps per inch. The smoothest edge quality ever seen by a laser cutting system is now avaible on every Kern Laser System.
• Variable Optics Air Pressure and Frequencies for material piercing and line cutting. These variable settings make cutting thicker materials and especially metals simple and efficient.
• By simply checking the Soft Home feature your laser will not have to align itself after each job saving you time and money.

Without a doubt, the most powerful component of KCAM is its Feed Forward capabilties. Unlike most laser engraving softwares KCAM automatically adjusts where the laser fires when it is ramping up and down. Many laser systems do not have this feature and as you speed up the laser speed your engravable area becomes narrower. All Kern Laser Systems have Feed Forward capabilites so no matter if you are engraving at 10"/sec or at the full 150"/sec you can utilize the full table top.

A unique Line-Smoothing feature has been added to the KCAM software. This feature will automatically add more resolution to your arcs and circles to produce a smoother cut. This is most evident in cutting acrylic.

Many pause features can be selected to handle difficult cutting and laser engraving applications. An Average Width feature allows you to scan just the portion of the table that is to be engraved which saves you time when possible without any shifting of letters or images.

Images can be viewed enlarged(as shown) or where they are placed on the tabletop.
